"Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 70 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday. As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lakh. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," IPL's statement read.
Despite this penalty, Rishabh Pant had a remarkable individual performance in the match. Having scored just 151 runs in 13 previous IPL appearances this season, he smashed a stunning century, an unbeaten 118, which helped his side post a colossal total of 227 for 3. However, Pant's first century in seven years ultimately went in vain as RCB went on to thrash LSG by 6 wickets.
Having been already knocked out of the tournament, LSG couldn't end their IPL 2025 season with a consolation win as RCB chased down the big target with eight balls to spare. Chasing a colossal target, Jitesh Sharma played a match winning unbeaten blistering fifty to that powered RCB to a six-wicket win, which ensured their top two finish in the standings. Jitesh was particularly destructive, smashing an unbeaten 85 runs from just 33 balls, an innings embellished with 8 fours and 6 sixes. Virat Kohli also contributed significantly, scoring a half-century that laid a crucial foundation for RCB's chase. Earlier in the game, Rishabh Pant's unbeaten century had been instrumental in LSG posting a daunting total of 227/3 but in the end it all went in vain.
RCB will now take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 1 which is slated to be held on May 29.
