The suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will likely to resume from next week as India and Pakistan mutually agreed to a ceasefire after the 'Operation Sindoor' by the Indian Armed Forces to counter terrorism. A few minutes after US President Donald Trump announced a "full and immediate ceasefire" between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea with effect from 5 PM IST, on Saturday.
The
IPL governing body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), suspended the tournament midway for a week amid the rising border tensions between India and Pakistan. The match 58 of the mega event between PBKS and DC was called off midway through the first innings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala. Spectators were also informed of the cancellation and asked to vacate the premises, while both teams were escorted back to their hotel.
After the match was abandoned, the IPL governing body, BCCI, arranged a special Vande Bharat train for the players and support staff involved in the clash on short notice to go to New Delhi on short notice since the airports are temporarily closed due to border tensions.
Earlier, BCCI reportedly shortlisted Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad for the remainder of the tournament. A majority of the overseas players are expected to leave India by the end of Saturday.
There are 12 league matches remaining, and then the four playoffs. Originally, Hyderabad was meant to host the first qualifier and the eliminator, with Kolkata hosting the second qualifier and the final.
