According to reports, Dhoni’s travel ticket had already been booked before he decided to opt out.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will lock horns against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their upcoming IPL 2026 clash on Friday, May 15 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. In a surprising turn of events, it has been reported that CSK icon MS Dhoni won't be travelling with the squad to Lucknow, despite his ticket having already been booked.

According to a latest report from Cricbuzz, it has been claimed that the former CSK skipper has opted out of travelling to Lucknow despite having already been booked.

Wait continues for MS Dhoni fans

Sadly the fans have to wait a little bit more to get a glimpse of MS Dhoni in a CSK game, as the former India skipper hasn't played a single game in the ongoing IPL 2026 season because of calf injury. Although, initially he was ruled for the first two weeks of the season. Later, Dhoni got fit and appeared in few intrasquad games, but the injury got aggravated which delayed his on-field return.

However, with each passing game, Dhoni's return looks unlikely as CSK are contesting for a berth in the playoffs, and the former India star won't interrupt the winning team combination. On the other hand, CSK are entering the LSG game with a hat trick of wins.

Where are CSK in the playoff race?

After a win over LSG at home, CSK climbed to fifth place, above Rajasthan Royals (RR) on the basis of net run rate (NRR). As the playoffs race intensifies, CSK need at least two wins in remaining three games to finish in the last four.
