Rajasthan Royals (RR) endured another loss in the IPL 2026 season, failing to chase 230 against Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday, May 9 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Rashid Khan's stunning 4/33 restricted RR to 152/10 while chasing 230.

Winning the toss, RR stand-in captain elected to bowl first. GT's opening duo of skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan got off to a flying start, scoring 84 off 44 and 55 off 36 respectively which led them post 229/4 at the end of 20 overs.

Big feat for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in IPL 2026

In response, RR's young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi batted in the fifth gear right from the first delivery, though his innings came to an end after scoring quick 36 off just 16 with the help of three sixes and three fours at a strike rate of 225.00. During his short stay at the crease, Sooryavanshi managed to create another record in the ongoing IPL  2026 season.

The 15-year-old batter became the first batter to hit 30 sixes inside the powerplay in an IPL season. Earlier the record belonged to Abhishek Sharma, who managed to hit 29 sixes for SRH in the powerplay overs of the 2024 season. However, The star India opener stands at 27 sixes in the powerplay in the ongoing edition.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's impact in IPL 2026

The 15-year-old opener is going through a strong campaign for RR in the ongoing IPL 2026. The left-handed opener has scored 440 runs in just 11 innings at an average of 40.00 with a strike rate of 236.55. Vaibhav has hit one century and two half-centuries in IPL 2026, with his highest score of 103 came against SRH on just 37 balls.
