Gujarat Titans (GT) openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan etched their names into the record books during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The GT opening duo crossed the landmark of 2,500 partnership runs in IPL history, becoming the first-ever all-Indian pair to achieve the feat in the tournament.

Gill-Sudharsan join elite IPL company

With their opening stand against Rajasthan Royals, Gill and Sudharsan became only the third pair in IPL history to register more than 2,500 partnership runs together.

They joined the legendary Virat Kohli-AB de Villiers duo, who lead the charts with 3,123 runs, and the iconic Kohli-Chris Gayle partnership, which accumulated 2,787 runs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Gill and Sudharsan are now rapidly closing in on the Kohli-Gayle tally and continue to establish themselves as one of the most dangerous opening combinations in T20 cricket.

The pair achieved the milestone in just 43 innings together, making them the fastest duo in IPL history to cross 2,500 partnership runs and the second-fastest pair globally in T20 cricket.

Only England’s domestic pair Daniel Bell-Drummond and Joe Denly reached the mark quicker, taking 41 innings.

GT openers dominate RR with another century stand

RR clash also witnessed Gill and Sudharsan registering their ninth 100-plus partnership in T20 cricket.

That tally places them level with some of the greatest partnerships in the format, including Kohli-Gayle, Kohli-de Villiers, and Pakistan’s Babar Azam-Mohammad Rizwan pair, all of whom have recorded ten century stands together.

Having opened together since 2022, the Gujarat Titans duo currently holds the best average among all T20 pairs with over 2,500 runs, boasting a staggering partnership average of 62.56.

Against RR, the pair once again laid a dominant foundation by adding 118 runs for the opening wicket before Sudharsan was eventually dismissed by Yash Raj Punja in the 11th over.

Their consistency at the top has become one of GT’s biggest strengths and continues to play a major role in the franchise’s success in IPL 2026.
