After Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) debutant Praful Hinge’s opening spell deflated Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) run chase by reducing them to 9/5, Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira prevented them from getting bowled out cheaply. Chasing 217, Jadeja and Ferreira got RR back on track but it was far from enough to take the visitors close to the target. But Jadeja’s intent in his rescue act against SRH left-arm spinners didn’t impress his former teammate Ravichandran Ashwin.
“The fact that Jaddu doesn’t take on spin, more so left arm spin is very intriguing,” Ashwin wrote on X.
“He is too good a player to be not taking a risk against a perfect match up for him.
“I know there will be stats that tell us that he doesn’t have a good sr [strike rate] against spin, but the surprise for me is how he isn’t even attempting the risk.”

No boundary vs left-arm spinners from Jadeja’s bat
Jadeja didn't score a single boundary against Shivang Kumar and Harsh Dubey. The all-rounder had a better match-up against Dubey who bowls orthodox left-arm spin. He played second fiddle to Ferreira in the 118-run partnership for the sixth wicket. It is second-highest six-wicket partnership in IPL history.
RR collapse after Ferreira-Jadeja’s dismissal
Proteas batter Ferreira departed after scoring his maiden fifty. His 44-ball 69 featured seven fours and three sixes. In the next over, Jadeja was caught behind off Eshan Malinga's bowling. He scored 45 runs from 32 balls, featuring five fours.
In the slog overs, Tushar Deshpande entertained with three sixe sin his 11-ball 25 cameo. RR ended up getting bowled out for 159 in 19 overs, losing the match by 57 runs. This was RR’s first defeat of the season.
Not a single over for Jadeja
Earlier, Jadeja didn’t bowl a single over while SRH batters, especially Ishan Kishan piled on runs. After the match, skipper Riyan Parag revealed that he did not want to risk bowling Jadeja against left-handed batter Kishan. The 37-year-old left-arm spinner has been underutilised by Parag, bowling just seven overs in five games.
