Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are still alive in the race to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs. They beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on April 26. After the away win, head coach Daniel Vettori was asked which left-arm spinner impressed him the most. Vettori said Gujarat Titans' (GT) left-arm spinner Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore impressed him and SRH wanted him in the auction.
"I think Kishore has got a big future. I think he can really kick on," Vettori said in the post-match press conference.
"I'm trying to think… (Mitchell) Santner has obviously been fantastic for Mumbai, Jaddu here, Harpreet Brar has got a few opportunities with Punjab (Kings).
"Sai Kishore has been the pick. He's been fantastic. He was a guy that we looked at very closely in the auction and wanted him in the team. He has all the attributes of a very good limited overs bowler.
"He's very brave. He has the ability to turn the ball, change his pace over and around the wicket. I think it sets up a template for other spinners to see how you can actually compete and succeed. He's done it on good batting wickets as well," he added.
When Kishore played against SRH on April 6, he got the wickets od Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen. He conceded 24 runs from his quota of four overs.
"I know he came to Hyderabad and bowled exceptionally well. So yeah, I think he's been incredibly impressive," the former New Zealand captain continued.
SRH did not go big for Kishore in the mega auction. GT used the Right to Match (RTM) card for him in the auction and roped him back in for Rs 2 crore.
SRH's spin attack
SRH's spin attack has not been impressive this season. Their star overseas leg-spinner Adam Zampa was ruled out due to injury. Rahul Chahar has bowled just one over whereas the young leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari has taken five wickets from seven games. Against CSK, the ambidextrous spinner got the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja. He bowled three overs and conceded 26 runs.
SRH's next match
SRH registered their third victory from nine games. They will go up against GT at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on May 2.
