BCCI warns IPL franchise owners, players, coaches, support staff, and commentators

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a caution to all the stakeholders of the Indian Premier League (IPL) about a businessman who might attempt to entice participants into potentially corrupt activities. As per Cricbuzz, the IPL governing body, BCCI, has cautioned the owners, players, coaches, support staff, and even commentators that a businessman with dubious credentials is looking to trap people who are involved in the cash-rich league.

As per the Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU), the businessman is from Hyderabad, who has links with punters, bookies and past and proven records of involvement in corrupt activities, is trying to befriend participants. The Corruption Security Unit requested all the IPL stakeholders to report any interactions with the businessman and also disclose any possible connections or engagements with him.

The ACSU urged all individuals to remain alert and report any relevant approaches. The suspected person's strategy is to involve luring unsuspecting targets with expensive gifts, including jewellery.

The reported businessman is reportedly attempting to get himself close to the IPL participants by masquerading as a fan. The report in Cricbuzz further added that he was allegedly spotted at the team hotels and in the matches, making efforts to befriend players and staff, and inviting potential targets to private parties. Not just players, he can bait the families of players by giving them gifts.

One of his methods is to approach family members of franchise owners, players, coaches, support staff, and even commentators. As per the report, he offers them jewellery.  There are also indications that he may have attempted to contact relatives living abroad, often through social media platforms.
