Former India cricketer and Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj Singh believes that legendary Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun Tendulkar possesses the potential to emulate the explosive batting style of Chris Gayle. Arjun Tendulkar is currently part of the Mumbai Indians' squad for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, having been acquired by the franchise for Rs 30 lakh in the recent mega auction. Despite being a valuable addition to the team as an all-rounder he is yet to feature in the playing XI this season.

In a recent statement, Yograj Singh, who has previously coached Arjun, provided insights into their training sessions. He disclosed that his coaching focused on encouraging Arjun to prioritise and develop his batting prowess. Moreover, Yograj Singh expressed his conviction that Arjun Tendulkar could transform into the next Chris Gayle, provided that Sachin Tendulkar entrusts Yuvraj Singh with the responsibility of coaching his son.

"With regards to Arjun, I said, focus less on his bowling and more on his batting. But if Yuvraj – he and Sachin are so close – takes Sachin's son under his wings for three months, I bet he will become the next Chris Gayle. Often it happens that a fast bowler, if he undergoes a stress fracture, cannot bowl as effectively. I think that Arjun should be handed over to Yuvraj for a while," Yograj told CricketNext.

Yograj Singh had previously disclosed that Arjun Tendulkar discontinued his training under him due to the youngster's concern that his identity would become solely associated with his coach. This decision came amidst Arjun's somewhat inconsistent performance in the recent domestic cricket season. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, he managed to score 40 runs across two innings while taking four wickets in three matches. His performance in the Ranji Trophy saw him amass 51 runs in three innings, averaging 17. However, he made big impact with the ball, bagging 16 wickets in a total of four matches at an impressive bowling average of 18.18, including one instance of taking five wickets in an innings. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25, Arjun's contributions were limited to 21 runs in two matches and a single wicket.
