Although Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka was not present at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium to witness Rishabh Pant's maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) century for the franchise, he promptly took to social media to congratulate Pant. Goenka lauded Pant's sensational unbeaten 118 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday, May 27.
This is how Sanjiv Goenka reacted to Rishabh Pant's centurion knock
In his post, Goenka simply wrote "Pantastic," sharing photos of Pant's memorable backflip celebration. Throughout the season, Goenka had been a consistent presence at Lucknow Super Giants matches. The business tycoon even offered a supportive gesture to Pant when the team was eliminated from playoff contention, underscoring his unwavering support through both the highs and lows of their campaign.
Pant himself had been under immense pressure, navigating one of the leanest patches of his IPL career. As the most expensive acquisition in IPL auction history, bought for ₹27 crore, the wicketkeeper-batter had struggled for form, failing to make any significant contributions with the bat. Prior to Tuesday's match, he had managed only one fifty in 13 appearances, accumulating a mere 151 runs.
However, in LSG's final league game of the season, Pant did rise to the occasion spectacularly with a blistering ton, but in the end all his efforts went in vain. The LSG captain smashed eight sixes and 11 boundaries in a scintillating 61-ball 118, propelling his side to a commanding total of 227 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing a colossal target, Jitesh Sharma played a match winning unbeaten blistering fifty to that powered RCB to a six-wicket win, which ensured their top two finish in the standings. RCB successfully crossed the finishing line in under 19 overs. Jitesh was particularly destructive, smashing an unbeaten 85 runs from just 33 balls, an innings embellished with 8 fours and 6 sixes. Virat Kohli also contributed significantly, scoring a half-century that laid a crucial foundation for RCB's chase. Earlier in the game, Rishabh Pant's unbeaten century had been instrumental in LSG posting a daunting total of 227/3 but in the end it all went in vain.
While LSG signed off the IPL 2025 season without a consolation win, RCB will now take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 1 which is slated to be held on May 29.
