PBKS will take on RCB in Qualifier 1

The final league stage match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finally determined the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025's playoff schedule.

Jitesh Sharma-led RCB, who had already secured a playoff spot, faced the already-eliminated LSG, with a coveted top-two finish at stake. Stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma ensured that RCB headed into the final stage of the tournament with a crucial win to ensure they finish on top 2.

RCB were all guns blazing while chasing an colossal target of 228 runs. Virat Kohli's rapid 54 off 30 balls and Phil Salt's 30 off 19 balls stitched together a quick 61-run opening stand in just 34 balls. Later, Jitesh Sharma's brilliant 85 and Mayank Agarwal's 41 wrapped up the chase, forming an impressive unbroken fifth-wicket partnership of 107 runs. RCB completed the chase with eight balls to spare.

With this win, RCB finished second on the table with 19 points, matching the top-placed Punjab Kings, with net run rate being the differentiator between the two sides. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans slipped to third with 18 points, while Hardik Pandya's Mumbai secured the fourth spot with 16 points.

RCB's six-wicket victory against Lucknow sets up a clash against Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1. This match will be held on May 29 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. The same venue will host the Eliminator on the following day, featuring Mumbai and Gujarat.

The team losing Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator will then face each other in Qualifier 2 on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the IPL 2025 final will take place on June 3 at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, between the winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2.
