With the IPL 2026 retention announcement right around the corner, player trades are also taking place side-by-side. A total of 8 players have been officially traded to different teams while ther are others who are expected to be retained by their respective teams.
Some of these trades see Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran heading to Rajasthan Royals while Sanju Samson is set to play for Chennai Super Kings next season. Additionally, Mohammed Shami has also joined Lucknow Super Giants from Sunrisers Hyderabad.
It remains to be seen who will end up with the same teams and who will be released by their respective franchises.

IPL 2026 Retention Live: As per Sports Tak, the Lucknow Super Giants will be releasing the likes of Ravi Bishnoi, David Miller, Akash Deep, Mohsin Khan, Shamar Joseph and Yuvraj Chaudhary. Both Bishnoi and Miller were core players for the franchise in the previous season, but they look set to part ways with them.

IPL 2026 Retention Live: As per Sports Tak, the Kolkata Knight Riders will be releasing Venkatesh Iyer, who they had signed for a huge fee of INR 23.75 crore at the IPL 2025 bauction. Alongside him the likes of Rahmanullah Gubaz Moeen Ali, Ancrich Nortje, Chetan Sakariya and Umran Malik will also be released. This will see the franchise enter the auction with quite a lot of purse for the IPL 2026 auction.

IPL 2026 Retention Live: As per Sports Tak, the Gujarat Titans are set to release the likes of Kusal Mendis, Karim Janat, Dasun Shanaka and Kulwant Khejroliya. The franchise is expected to retain the core of their team including the likes of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj and more. The team had finished the 2025 season on the third position with 18 points from 14 games. Though they had qualified for the playoffs, the Mumbai Indians knocked them out by defeating them in the eliminator.

Release list of CSK
IPL 2026 Retention Live: As per Sports Tak, the Chennai Super Kings are set to release the likes of Devon Conway, Rahul Tripathi, Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda and Kamlesh Nagarkoti from the franchise. Except for Conway, all the other released players were signed by the franchise at the IPL 2025 auction and are likely to depart after playing just one season for them.

Pathirana to leave CSK?
According to latest rumours, Chennai Super Kings are expected to not retain Matheesha Pathirana. However, they are expected to do so in order to buy him back at the auction that will reportedly be held in December. He was retained by the franchise for a massive fee of INR 13 crore for the 2025 season. Pathirana has been with CSK since IPL 2022 and has been a key player for them in the bowling department.

Natarajan IN, du Plessis OUT for DC?
IPL 2026 Retention Live: According to a latest report by Cribuzz, the Delhi Capitals can go on to release the likes of Faf du Plessis, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Mohit Sharma while they might retain T. Natarajan. Du Plessis had joined the franchise last year for a fee of INR 2 crore and he scored 202 runs in 9 matches for them.

CSK on why they traded Jadeja
Here is what CSK Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan had to say on Ravindra Jadeja being traded to Rajasthan Royals -
“Chennai Super Kings, as you know, have traded Jadeja and Sam Curran for Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals. As a franchise, you might know that over the years, we have not used the path of trading, except for one year when we got Robin Uthappa. The team management felt the need for a top-order Indian batsman. And since not many Indian batsmen are going to be available at the auction, we thought the best way to get an Indian top-order batter is to go through the trade window," Viswanathan said in a video shared by CSK.

KL Rahul to KKR?
It is rumoured that KL Rahul is being targeted by the Kolkata Knight Riders. They view him as a potential captaincy option for the upcoming season. The wicketkeeper-batter is currently associated with the Delhi Capitals, who had signed him for a massive fee of INR 14 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, but is already being linked to other franchises after spending just one season with them. Rahul had been terrific with the bat for the Delhi-based franchise last season, scoring 539 runs from 13 matches.

Shami joins LSG, Nitish Rana headed to DC
IPL 2026 Retention Live: Mohammed Shami has been traded to the Lucknow Super Giants from Sunrisers Hyderabad for a massive fee of INR 10 crore. On the other hand, Nitish Rana has made the move from Rajasthan Royals to the Delhi Capitals for INR 4.2 crore.

Samson to CSK, Jadeja to RR
IPL 2026 Retention Live: After weeks of speculation, the Sanju Samson-Ravindra Jadeja trade has finally been confirmed. While Samson has moved to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 18 crore, Ravindra Jadeja has joined the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 14 crore. Another player involved in this deal is Sam Curran, who has been traded from CSK to RR for INR 2.4 crore.
