Delhi Capitals (DC) bowlers had a bad day at the office as they could not take a single wicket and failed to defend a total of 199 at their homeground, Arun Jaitley Stadium. There was one chance where left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav had trapped Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Sai Sudharsan in front of the wickets but the umpire's call saved the youngster. A livid Kuldeep had an argument with the on-field umpire before captain Axar Patel intervened and calmed him down. 

The incident took place on the first ball of the eighth over when Kuldeep was introduced into the attack. The spinner tossed it up, Sudharsan went for a flick but missed the ball. Kuldeep's appeal was turned down and he convinced Axar to opt for the review. The ball-tracking technology showed that wickets were hitting but it was umpire's call. As soon as Kuldeep saw the decision on the big screen, he was angry and had an argument with umpire Keyur Kelkar.

Sudharsan was batting on 46 off 26 balls when the got a reprieve. He went on to score an unbeaten 108 from 61 balls in the run chase. He shared an unbeaten 205-run partnership with captain Shubman Gill and got GT over the line with one over to spare. This was Sudharsan's second Indian Premier League (IPL) century. Kuldeep remained wicketless and conceded 37 runs from his quota of four overs.

Three-way fight for fourth playoff spot

This was DC's fifth loss of the tournament. Their opponent, GT registered their ninth win from 12 games and climbed to the top of the points table. On May 18, GT, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) booked their place in the playoffs.

DC are currently placed fifth on the points table, below Mumbai Indians (MI) who have seven wins from 12 games. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are in the playoffs race too despite a negative net run rate (NRR). LSG have won five out of 11 games. They need three in a row to make it to the playoffs. Meanwhile, DC's next clash is against MI at Wankhede Stadium. A win will boost their chances of making it to playoffs as they have one extra point from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) game that was washed out due to rain.
