A viral video and a viral 'fake' letter has led to former IPL chairman Lalit Modi making a bizarre claim. After the clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clash, a video went viral where a SRH fan is doing the lemon trick just before Shivam Dube's dismissal. Following this, a letter has gone viral. Allegedly, CSK wrote a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) complaining about use of ‘supernatural practices’ by audience during the game. While Modi labelled it as a fake letter, he ignited another controversy by saying that one franchise owner indulged in similar practices and he had to alert the opposition. He went on to say that he will reveal the details of the incident later. He claims to have concrete proof of the incident.
“Seems fake this time. But one team owner did indulge in this type of practice,” Modi wrote in his post on X.

“I remember I posted some team owner doing this to the opposing team. By doing exactly this themselves in opposing team dressing room. I even alerted the opposing team owners about this way back in 2011 season - when it happened and I got an alert with concrete proof. I will reveal all these type of activities conducted by whom in the movie / TV series as decided by my team to disclose,” he added.
So far, reports have emerged that the viral letter is photo-shopped/fake.
In addition to the existing seven original franchises, now-defunct Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors India were part of the IPL 2011 as well.
What happened in CSK’s run chase?
The video in the stands was recorded at a pivotal moment. CSK’s finisher Dube was keeping the run chase alive. Before his dismissal, CSK needed 41 runs from 20 balls. After the lemon trick, Dube was knocked over by pacer Sakib Hussain's yorker. Later, Praful Hinge dismissed Jamie Overton to seal SRH's victory. They won the game by 10 runs.
The five-time IPL winners CSK have been struggling in the ongoing season. Marred by injuries, they have lost four out of six games and are currently placed seventh on the points table.
