Veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who got picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction has revealed two of the toughest batters he has bowled to. Chahal who is the highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL ignored India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as he picked Heinrich Klaasen and Nicholas Pooran as formidable batters to face.
Chahal further explained why he picked Klaasen and Pooran as the toughest batters to face. However, he also expressed that he has never gotten overawed by the stature of the batter he is up against.
“Heinrich Klaasen is one, Nicholas Pooran another. They have so much power that sometimes even the edges go for sixes. They are the ones who are challenging. I have gone for sixes against them and done well against them too. But, when I bowl, I don’t look at the name. When you look at their reputation, it will create pressure on you. I have the ball, they have the bat. I have to win the battle. I am not 6’5" or very broad. Mera sab kuch mind pe hai (my mind is everything for me). I always focus on that," stated Chahal, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Chahal was one of the most expensive signings ahead of the 18th edition of the T20 league. PBKS spent 18 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction to get the services of the leg spinner.
Chahal IPL career
Chahal is the highest wicket-taker in the history of the IPL. He picked up 205 wickets in 159 innings. His most wickets came while featuring for Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The upcoming edition will be Chahal's 13th edition in the cash-rich league.
