India cricketing legend Virender Sehwag offered a unique advice for the young Vaibhav Suryavanshi after the Rajasthan Royals' (RR) narrow defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
RR who are currently struggling in the IPL 2025, lost their last clash against RCB by 11 runs, which was well within their hands, even until the 18th over. Fortunately for RCB, they gained their first victory on their home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
Vaibhav, who is known for his explosive batting, started his IPL career against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by smashing a six on the first ball. He scored a 20-ball 34-run knock, including two boundaries and three huge sixes in his IPL 2025 debut against LSG. He continued the momentum in his second clash against RCB by smashing two sixes off against veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar before getting out in his over.
Sehwag advised Suryavanshi to stay grounded and not to lose concentration on the game. He also mentioned several instances when cricketers lost control over the game after playing just one or two matches.
"If you step out knowing that you will get praised for doing well and criticised for not doing well, you will remain grounded. I have seen many players who come, get fame from one or two matches, then they do not do anything, because they think that they have become a star player," said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.
Sehwag also mentioned that Suryavanshi should look to play for the next 20 editions of the IPL, just like batting great Virat Kohli, who has been featuring in the IPL since the inaugural season of the tournament.
"Suryavanshi must aim to play 20 years in the IPL. Look at Virat Kohli, he started playing when he was 19 years old, now he has played all 18 seasons. That is what he should be trying to emulate. But, if he is happy with this IPL, thinking that he is now a crorepati, had a great debut, hit a six off the first ball, maybe we won't see him next year," added Sehwag.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi will now likely be seen in action during RR's upcoming clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 28 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
