Cameron Green is likely to bowl in KKR's upcoming IPL 2026 clash against LSG

KKR will take on LSG on April 9

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have received a major boost as star all-rounder Cameron Green is reportedly set to resume his bowling duties. According to report by ESPNcricinfo, Green is expected to return to the bowling crease during KKR’s next IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens. This news is a welcome relief for the franchise, which has been awaiting clearance for the star player to contribute with more than just the bat.

Will Cameron Green feature in KKR vs LSG clash?

The start of the IPL 2026 campaign has been challenging for KKR, as they have managed to secure only a single point from their first three outings. Following defeats in their opening two matches against the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, their most recent fixture against the Punjab Kings was unfortunately abandoned due to heavy rain in Kolkata. Throughout these initial games, Green featured in the lineup but remained restricted to a specialist batting role.

The delay in Green’s bowling was attributed to strict workload management protocols. Following the opening match against Mumbai, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane noted that the timing of Green's return to bowling was entirely dependent on Cricket Australia's assessment. It appears the Aussie all-rounder has finally received the necessary medical clearance from his national board, providing KKR with a vital additional bowling option as they look to secure their first win of the season.

KKR's struggle in IPL 2026

Green’s return to the bowling crease is critical for KKR, who are currently grappling with a depleted bowling attack. The team’s resources are already under significant strain; Matheesha Pathirana has yet to become a consistent fixture in the lineup, while veteran spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy face their own hurdles. Narine was sidelined for Punjab Kings clash due to illness, and Varun remains a doubt after sustaining an injury while attempting a catch in a previous outing.

Green’s ability to chip in with even a short spell against the Lucknow Super Giants could fundamentally reshape KKR's tactical approach. By providing an extra bowling option, he would immediately alleviate the heavy workload currently placed on the remaining bowlers and restore the tactical balance the team has lacked. Furthermore, a full all-round performance would likely quiet any external criticism regarding his selection, allowing the franchise to finally utilise him as the versatile powerhouse they intended to sign rather than a one-dimensional compromise.

Ultimately, this development represents a potential turning point for Kolkata at a precarious moment in their season. While the tournament is still in its early stages, the room for error is quickly disappearing for a team struggling to climb the standings.
