SRH's Ishan Kishan whistles after win over CSK in Chepauk on May 18.

Story Highlights:

Ishan Kishan scored 70 runs from 47 balls in the successful run chase in Chepauk.

After loss to SRH, CSK's playoffs qualification chances look bleak.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) vice-captain Ishan Kishan stood up to the task in the tricky run chase at Chepauk against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Kishan scored 70 runs from 47 balls and only departed when SRH needed six more runs to win from nine deliveries. While Kishan dedicated his fifth half-century of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 to his late cousin sister’s family who were cheering from the stands, he took a dig at CSK fans. After the win, he was seen seemingly gesturing CSK fans to go home. Later, he took to Instagram and took a sly dig at the five-time IPL-winning franchise’s fans.

“Only thing louder than the whistles was the bat. Into the playoffs," Kishan wrote in the caption of a series of photos he posted from the CSK encounter.

SRH in playoffs, CSK far from it

The win helped SRH seal their playoffs berth. It was their eighth win from 13 games. They can also finish in top two if they beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their next game at home.

On the other hand, CSK’s playoffs hopes took a huge dent. This was their seventh loss in the season. They slipped to sixth place on the points table and need a big win against Gujarat Titans (GT) to say alive in the playoffs race. Their qualification will depend on results of other games even if they beat GT.

Kishan on batting in tough Chepauk conditions

Kishan was adjudged ‘Player of the match’ for his gritty knock. He had realised while keeping that it is not going to be an easy surface to bat on. After SRH got bowled out for 86 in the run chase against GT, Kishan wanted to bat till the end.

“I think, when I was wicket keeping, I just felt like this wicket is not easy," the in-form southpaw said during the post-match presentation.

“I still felt chasing this total is going to be a bit too much because, the wicket was not at all easy, especially when spinners were bowling and those slow balls working out very well, but at the same time, as a number three batter, I just felt, my job is to just try and finish the game because, batters coming in, especially at the back end, it’s difficult for them to take singles and at the same time score boundaries. So I had to just play it till the last over," he added.

Kishan is 10 runs away from completing 500 runs this season. He is seventh in the orange cap race.
