Continuous drizzle has delayed the toss of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) which is scheduled to be played at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on April 18.
Rain delays RCB vs PBKS toss
The scheduled time for the toss was 7:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST), but this had to be postponed as a result of a continuous light rain. Consequently, the start of the match itself, which was originally set for 7:30 PM IST, has also been pushed back due to the unfavorable weather.
As per the official playing conditions of the IPL, a match that is slated to begin at 7:30 PM IST is typically expected to conclude by 10:50 PM IST. Moreover, the rules permit an allocation of an extra 60 minutes beyond the standard match duration to accommodate potential delays.
Therefore, should the match officials determine that it is feasible to complete the game by 11:50 PM IST, provided that the ground conditions become suitable for play, they have the option to proceed with a reduced five-over contest. This provision allows for a shortened game to be played if time constraints due to weather delays necessitate it.
Notably, 10.41pm local is the cut-off time for the RCB vs PBKS toss, while 10.56 pm is that for the start of play.
RCB vs PBKS head-to-head record
RCB and PBKS have locked horns with each other 33 times in the IPL so far. While RCB have emerged victorious in 16 matches, PBKS have sealed wins on 17 occasion.
Currently positioned closely in the IPL 2025 points table, RCB hold the third spot, while PBKS are situated just below them at number four. Both franchises have displayed similar form in the tournament thus far, each securing four wins and suffering two defeats after playing six matches. However, RCB possess a marginally superior net run rate compared to PBKS. Both teams enter this encounter with positive momentum, having registered wins in their respective previous matches.
In their last outing, RCB showcased a commanding performance against RR in Jaipur, successfully chasing down a target of 174 runs with an impressive nine wickets in hand and 15 balls to spare. Their victory was largely fueled by stellar half-centuries from Phil Salt and Virat Kohli, with valuable contributions also coming from Devdutt Padikkal. Among the bowlers, Krunal Pandya stood out for RCB, delivering an economical spell of 1/29 in his full quota of four overs.
Meanwhile, PBKS notched a historic feat in their most recent game by successfully defending a modest total of 112 runs against the reigning champions, KKR. This remarkable defense stands as the lowest score ever successfully defended in the history of the Indian Premier League. The bowling attack was spearheaded by impressive performances from Yuzvendra Chahal, who claimed four wickets, and Marco Jansen, who contributed with three crucial dismissals.
