Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have paid condolences to legendary singer Asha Bhosle on her demise during the 20th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, taking place at iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. 

Notably, Asha Bhosle, who passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai, was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday. Maharashtra’s Culture Minister Ashish Shelar confirmed the news outside the hospital. Her last rites will take place at Shivaji Park on Monday at 4:00 pm. Apart from this, the players of both teams also wear black armbands to pay tribute to the legendary singer.

Asha Bhosle's decorated career

Asha Bhosle, one of the most respected singers of her time, started her career with the Marathi film Majha Bal in 1943. She became famous for many iconic songs like Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani, Kya Ghazab Karte Ho Ji, O Haseena Zulfonwale Jane Jahan, and Ye Ladka Hai Allah Kaisa Hai Diwana. She sang not just in Hindi, but in around 20 Indian and international languages.

In 2006, she shared that she had recorded nearly 12,000 songs in her career. Over the years, she worked with some of the biggest music composers like Shankar–Jaikishan, R. D. Burman, O. P. Nayyar, Ilaiyaraaja, Bappi Lahiri and A. R. Rahman.

She received many honours during her long career, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan, one of India’s highest civilian awards.

MI vs RCB toss

Coming back to the match, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. 

MI made two changes to their playing XI, bringing in Mitchell Santner and Mayank Markande in place of AM Ghazanfar and Deepak Chahar.

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar brought in Jacob Duffy in place of Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood.
