Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill was not pleased with the umpires' decisions in the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 2. After complaining about the run out which prevented him from scoring a century, Gill was not happy with the DRS call as SRH opener Abhishek Sharma was given not out on the basis of part of the ball ball pitching outside the leg stump.
As Prasidh Krishna's yorker hit Abhishek on his boot, he asked for the physio. Meanwhile, Gill was having an animated conversation with the umpire. Two two umpires tried to explain it to Gill but he wasn't convinced. In the end, Abhishek asked Gill to calm down.
GT retained their review as the DRS did not show where the ball was pitched but the point of impact and wickets. The decision did not have any affect on the game's outcome as SRH were far too behind the required run rate. Abhishek was batting on 69 when he got a reprieve. In the next over, he was dismissed by Ishant Sharma. The opener scored 74 runs from 41 balls, including four fours and six sixes.
SRH managed to post 186/6 on the board and lost the match by 38 runs at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. SRH are practically out of the playoffs race, having lost seven out of their 10 games.
Earlier, Gill went all guns blazing at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. He hit 10 fours and two sixes in his 38-ball 76 before he was run out. He shared a 87-run opening stand from 41 balls. Then, Gill and Jos Buttler carried the momentum. They shared a 62-run partnership for the second wicket.
Gill on heated exchange with umpires -
After the comprehensive win, Gill opened up about his altercation with the umpires.
"There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire, sometimes there are so many emotions involved as you give your 110 percent, there are bound to be some emotions," he said in the post-match presentation.
Gill-led GT are currently placed second on the points table with seven wins from 10 games. Their net run rate (NRR) is lower than table-toppers Mumbai Indians (MI).
