Afghanistan mystery spinner Noor Ahmad lavished praise on former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni for his wicketkeeping during the team's Indian Premier League 2025 opener clash against Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 

During the 11th over of the MI innings, stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav was beaten by a flighted delivery from Noor Ahmad and even before he could complete his bat swing, Dhoni completed the stumping. After Suryakumar's wicket Noor Ahmad picked Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir's wicket to restrict MI to just 155/9 in 20 overs. Noor Ahmad was awarded Player of the Match for his extraordinary performance in CSK debut.

 "It feels special to play here in the IPL. Happy for the team and happy with the contribution. The focus was to land the ball in the right area and the wicket of Surya was special and the stumping from MSD was out of the world. Feels great to have someone like Mahi bhai behind the stumps, it is a great support for me" said Noor Ahmad

 

Coming back to the match, After Noor Ahmad's four-wicket haul, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a fifty to set up a four-wicket win over their biggest rival MI. Gaikwad who is an opening batter, came to bat at number three and smashed 53 off 26 balls before the latter took over to ensure CSK got over the line in 19.1 overs. Ravindra remained unbeaten on 65 off 45 balls.

Chennai Super Kings will lock horns against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 28 at the same venue. Both CSK and RCB have already won their first clash of the tournament. CSK last faced RCB in their do-or-die clash where the Bengaluru-based franchise defeated Chennai to seal their berth for the playoffs.
