Delhi Capitals (DC) faced a distressing situation during the 35th match of the 2026 IPL at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, as their star bowler Lungi Ngidi suffered a concerning injury. The incident occurred during the third over of the Punjab Kings' run chase, casting a shadow over the ongoing contest between the two sides.
Lungi Ngidi stretchered off the field after horrific injury
The injury happened while Ngidi was attempting to take a catch; he fell heavily to the ground and struck his head in the process. Medical assistance was summoned immediately, with the team physio rushing to the field to attend to him. Given the nature of the impact, an ambulance was also brought onto the pitch to ensure the player received the necessary urgent care.

The injury occurred during the third over of the Punjab Kings' innings while Axar Patel was bowling. Lungi Ngidi, stationed at mid-off, was tracking back in an attempt to dismiss PBKS opener Priyansh Arya. While stretching to reach the ball overhead, the South African fast bowler lost his balance and fell, striking his head on the ground in the process.
Ngidi was clearly in significant pain, clutching his head and remaining immobile on the field for an extended period while receiving urgent medical attention. Following the incident, the Delhi Capitals utilized the concussion substitution rule, bringing in Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera to replace him for the remainder of the match.
