Venkky Mysore shared his reaction on bringing in Cameron Green

KKR signed Green for a whopping fee of INR 25.20 crore

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) broke the bank for Australia all-rounder Cameron Green at the IPL 2026 mini-auction. They were one of the teams expected to sign the 26-year-old as they came into the auction with the highest purse. Green was also expected to become the costliest player of the mini-auction and so far this has turned out to be true  as he was signed for a  humongous fee of INR 25.20 crore.

Green joins an elite list of players

Green has now become the third-most expensive player in IPL history only behind Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. Pant still holds that record after being signed by the Lucknow Super Giants for a fee of INR 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore shared his views on bringing in Green and remarked that they would have let  him go if his price hampered their plans for the resty of the auction.

"Very happy, something we were focused on and hoping. Happy with the price with which we got him. Always a concern as to what we would’ve done had the price gone higher. Fact is we were very keen, but not so attached. If we felt it would affect rest of the auction, we would’ve let it go. Fortunately, came within the range we were looking at. He adds lot to our team, especially with our new power coach Andre Russell, very nice to have a young allrounder," Mysore said.

"Him having had IPL experience, we know what he does with bat and ball. Couldn’t be happier. Tough to say how far we would’ve gone, lot of it would’ve depended on rest of the plans. We were getting close," he added.

Green to not get the full amount

However, Green will only get INR 18 crore and not the entire amount. This is because he did not register for the mega auction last year. The maximum salary for a player missing from mega auction is capped at Rs 18 crore and thus, the remaining Rs 7.2 crore will go to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
