Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 kicked off, there was much talk about the 300-run mark getting breached. In the second match of the season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came close to it as they posted 286/6 on the board against Rajasthan Royals (RR). While there have been a few big scores this season, the 300-run mark is yet to be breached. But, Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) finisher Rinku Singh feels 300 possible and any of the 10 teams can do it.
"Yes, we can do it. IPL has reached a stage where even 300 is possible; last year, Punjab chased a total of 262 runs. All teams are strong this season - anyone can get to 300," said Rinku in a conversation with JioHotstar.
Rinku has not been in the best of forms this season. He has scored 133 runs from seven innings at an average of 33.25. His strike rate is 146.15. He is sixth on the list of highest run-scorers for KKR this season.
Rinku on 'finisher ' role
The southpaw opened up about the finisher role at the KKR and reveals the advice he got from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni.
"I usually bat at No. 5 or 6 — I've done that for UP and in the IPL, so I'm used to it. I focus a lot on fitness because with 14 matches in the IPL, it's my responsibility to maintain my body and recover well," he said.
"I also speak to Mahi Bhai often — he tells me to stay calm and play according to the match situation. Things fall into place when you stay composed."
Rinku on learning from Rinku
Rinku also talked about the continous learning process and how he observes Andre Russell.
"I've been learning since I started playing in the IPL. I observe Russell closely, especially how he bats in the final overs, and how he uses his body to generate power. I keep watching and picking up things from him," he added.
Rinku was retained for Rs 13 crore by KKR ahead of the auction despite managing to scored 168 runs from 11 innings in the previous season.
In IPL 2025, KKR are struggling as they have lost five out of eight games and are placed seventh on the points table. They take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at home on April 26, 11 days after the historic collapse against them in Mullanpur.
