Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru breached the Chepuk fortress after defeating Ruturaj Gaikwad's Chennai Super Kings by a massive margin of 50 runs in match 8 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is taking place at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on March 28 (Friday). Gaikwad blamed bad fielding, a dropped catch and their batting approach in the chase as the reason for the loss against RCB.

The CSK captain said that 170 runs should have been a par score on this pitch, but RCB managed to add 20 more runs on the board, which played a big factor. He also criticised their fielding and batting approach. RCB captain Rajat Patidar got three lifelines in the form of dropped catches, and he played a crucial 51-run knock for RCB.

"I still feel 170 was a par score on this wicket. Bad day in the fielding cost us. When you are chasing 20 runs extra on a sticky wicket, you have to bat differently. It got a little bit slower and sticky. Don't really know how it happened. Rahul backed his shot, I backed my shot, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Still happy that we didn't lose by a big margin. A different scenario. When you have three world-class spinners, you want the new batters to face them. The momentum kept going and didn't stop till the final over. There's a long flight to Guwahati, we have to turn up mentally. The fielding has to improve a lot and we have to come back strongly," said Gaikwad in the post-match presentation.
Rajat Patidar's fifty and Tim David's cameo knock helped RCB post a massive total on board. They gave CSK a 197-run target to defend their home win streak. However, it was just too much for the Yellow army as their batters collapsed in front of the big total.
CSK kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and failed to build partnerships that could take them closer to the target. In the end, they lost the match by 50 runs and RCB won their first game against CSK at Chepauk after 2008. They ended their losing streak at Chennai, which lasted for 17 years.
