Mumbai look in control in the Ranji Trophy 2022 second semi-final against Uttar Pradesh after Day 2's play. Injured wicketkeeper-batter Aditya Tare’s replacement, Hardik Tamore's century helped Mumbai post a good first innings total before their new-ball bowlers worked their magic in the last session of the day.
Tamore hits century
Mumbai added 133 runs to their overnight score. Tamore who remained unbeaten on Day 1, went on to score 115 runs to help Mumbai post 393. Tamore and Shams Mulani shared a 123-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
Uttar Pradesh skipper Karan Sharma broke the partnership. Mulani scored 50 runs from 130 deliveries including five boundaries. Tanush Kotian joined Tamore in the middle. The seventh-wicket partnership helped Tamore get to his second First-Class century. But Saurabh Kumar broke the partnership and send Kotian back to pavillion. Kotian contributed 22 runs to the score from 37 deliveries.
Tamore runs out of partners
Tamore did not get much support from the tailenders as Dhawal Kulkarni and Tushar Deshpande got out quickly. With wickets falling at the other end, Tamore got out as well. He scored 115 runs from 233 deliveries including 12 fours and one six. The 115-run knock is the 24-year-old personal best. For Uttar Pradesh, Karan took four wickets in his 17 overs.
Early wickets
Uttar Pradesh batted for 12 overs on Day 2. They did not get off to an ideal start. Kulkarni got rid of Samarth Singh for a golden duck as the edge carried to wicketkeeper Tamore. Former Under-19 World Cup captain Priyam Garg did not last long at the crease. Garg got bowled by Deshpande in the fourth over.
Damage control
Opener Madhav Kaushik and skipper Karan did not let more wickets fall on Day 2. Before walking off the field, Kaushik and Karan were batting on 11 and 10 respectively. Uttar Pradesh's scored read 25/2 after 12 overs. They still trail by 368 runs.
