Still only 22 and in his 13th First-Class match, Karnataka's Ravichandran Smaran now has three double centuries. His first came last season against Punjab in Bengaluru.
R Smaran dealing in double centuries in Ranji Trophy
R Smaran's continues his stellar form in the fifth round Ranji Trophy 2025-2026 match against Chandigarh in Hubli on November 17, as he cracked yet another double hundred. Smaran reached the milestone in 343 balls, which was decorated with 16 fours and a maximum. Notably, this was Smaran's second double ton of the ongoing season, following his unbeaten 220 against Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram earlier in the campaign. Furthermore, during this impressive knock, the batter also surpassed the towering landmark of 1,000 runs in his First-Class career.
Despite being only 22 years old and playing in just his 13th First-Class match, Smaran now boasts an impressive three double centuries to his name. His maiden double hundred was scored last season against Punjab in Bengaluru, signaling his potential early on. These strong and consistent early returns earned him a call-up to the South Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, where he further proved his mettle by scoring a fifty against the Central Zone team.
Going by his List A track record, he has amassed a total of 1035 runs in 12 innings at an average of 115 with 3 double tons, as many fifties and a century. May be this was the reason why Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) decided to retain him couple of days back.
Karnataka tighten screw on Chandigarh
However, Smaran wasn't the lone scorer as he found an apt ally in Karun Nair, who also smashed a robust 95 to help his team post a colossal total of 547/8 dec. Shreyas Gopal and Shikhar Shetty too contributed with brilliant fifties down the order. While Shreyas chipped in with 62 off 147, Shikhar scored an impressive 59 off 122. Meanwhile, Jagjit Singh, Vishu Kashyap and Nishunk Birla took a two-fer apiece.
In reply, Chandigarh got off to a jittery start as they were left reeling at 72/4 by the close of Day 2, thanks to Shreyas Gopal's exceptional spell. The 32-year-old bowled a brilliant spell of 3/18 in mere 4.4 over to leave the opponent limping.
