Kohli's batting masterclass was on full display on Wednesday, as he cracked his 53rd century in the format and 84th overall in international cricket, proving his batting might despite playing only one format now, having retired from Tests and T20Is. It all came after his exceptional knock of 135 runs off 120 balls in the series opener in Ranchi.

After South Africa chose to put India in to bat, Kohli walked in early at number three and dominated the proceedings, blazing away to 102 runs off 93 balls, which included seven fours and two sixes. He was pivotal in the innings, sharing a mammoth 195-run stand for the third wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad (105 off 83 balls), who celebrated his maiden hundred in the format.

In reply, South Africa rode on Aiden Markram's century to overhaule the daunting target in 49.2 overs. Markram anchored the successful reply with a leading score of 110, ably supported by Matthew Breetzke (68) and Dewald Brevis (54). On the bowling side for India, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna both managed to claim two wickets apiece. With the series tied, the deciding third and final ODI is scheduled to be played on Saturday.
