Rohit Sharma-led India continued the winning streak in T20Is with a dominating performance against Sri Lanka in the second T20I at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Rohit created a world record early in his T20I captaincy as he surpassed New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and England’s Kane Williamson to register most T20I wins at home as captain. This was Rohit’s 16th T20I win at home. So far, he has led India in 17 T20Is in home conditions.

The seven-wicket win is also India’s 11th T20I win in a row. It is the joint second-longest T20I win-streak. If India win the third and final T20I of the series, they will equal the record of longest winning streak in the format which belongs to Afghanistan and Romania.

The win streak started during India’s disappointing T20 World Cup 2021 campaign. India beat Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia in their group stage clash after suffering two consecutive defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand respectively. These T20I wins came under the leadership under the leadership of Virat Kohli. After the embarrassing exit from the mega event, Rohit Sharma took over as captain of the shortest format and won three-T20I series against New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the series, Rohit also became the leading run-scorer in T20I cricket, going past Virat Kohli and Martin Guptill with his 44-run knock in Lucknow. In the second T20I, he also became the first Indian fielder to complete 50 catches in the format at the international stage. He is currently tied at third position with Shoaib Malik on the list of matches in T20I cricket, only behind Martin Guptill and David Miller.

This was also Rohit’s 124th T20I appearance. On February 27, he will become the most capped T20I player going past Pakistan veteran Malik. India will also look to continue their dominance and register third T20I series whitewash in a row.

While Rohit achieved many feats in the second T20I but could not do much with the bat as he got out after scoring a single run. Dushmantha Chameera got his wicket in T20Is for the fifth time and went past New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee who had dismissed him four times.
