India head coach Gautam Gambhir believes that India should avoid all kinds of relations with Pakistan till they stop all the terrorism amid the rising tensions between the neighbouring nations. India ended all their bilateral ties with Pakistan after the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai due to cross-border terrorism. The Asian cricketing giants face each other only in ICC events.
In a recent interview, Gambhir said that while the ultimate decision rests with the government, his personal belief is that nothing can come close to the lives of Indian citizens.
"My personal answer to this is absolutely no. Till all this (Terrorism) doesn't stop, there should not be anything between India and Pakistan," Gambhir told ABP news.
“Ultimately, this is government's decision whether we play them or not. I have said this before also, no cricket match or Bollywood or any other interaction is more important than the life of Indian soldiers and Indian citizens. Matches will keep happening, movies will be made, singers will continue to perform, but nothing comes close to losing a loved one in your family.” Indian coach added.
While asked about India's plans to feature against Pakistan in the Asian Cup, Gambhir said that the BCCI and government will take the final call on whether the Men in Blue will feature against Pakistan.
"This is not up to me, it's not in my jurisdiction, this is for BCCI and more importantly, the government to decide whether we should play them or not. Whatever decision they make, we should be absolutely fine with it and not politicise it" Gambhir also said.
Gambhir's statement came after the Pahalgam terror attack happened on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including several tourists from Maharashtra.
India strikes back against Pakistan-based terrorists
In related news, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'Mission Sindoor' to carry out precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), days after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.
Gautam Gambhir took his 'X' formerly known as Twitter to react at India's Operation Sindoor.
On May 7, early morning, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed, said an official statement from the Minister of Defence.
