Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally announced India's A squad for the upcoming tour of England. India A and England Lions will engage in two first-class matches at Canterbury and Northampton starting from May 30 which will conclude with a Intra-squad match against Team India (Senior Men).
BCCI reveals India A squad for England tour
The India A squad is full of surprise entries and Karun Nair is one of them who will be returning to the national set-up after a gap of almost 8 years. Meanwhile, Abhimanyu Easwaran will be seen leading the India A pack. Notably, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will join the squad ahead of the second match after the conclusion of IPL 2025.
Despite having captained the India 'A' team during their tour of Australia last year, Ruturaj Gaikwad has not been selected for the upcoming 'A' team squad, even though he is reportedly fit to be part of the team. The 28-year-old had previously been sidelined from the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to a shoulder injury. It is notable that the selected 'A' team predominantly features players who are not part of the 2025 IPL.
But what caught everyone's attention the most was Karun Nair's selection. He has made a return to the national reckoning, while Dhruv Jurel has been appointed as the vice-captain, ahead of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Sarfaraz Khan has retained his place in the squad, but Shreyas Iyer has not been able to secure a comeback in red-ball cricket. Ishan Kishan has also been included in the squad, having previously travelled with the shadow team to Australia. The spin department will be handled by Manav Suthar, Harsh Dubey, and Tanush Kotian. Anshul Kamboj has received his maiden call-up to the India 'A' team. While the selection of fast bowlers aligns with expectations, the return of Shardul Thakur is an interesting development, particularly after he was overlooked by both the 'A' and senior teams for the recent Australia series.
The first match will start from May 30 in Canterbury followed by another one starting from July 6 in Northampton. Meanwhile the Intra-squad match will begin from June 16 in Beckenham
