India's star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to start his rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru soon. Pant suffered a fracture on his right foot during fourth Test of the England tour in Manchester. The southpaw has been consulting specialists on his road to recovery.
Pant intends to be fit before the home two-Test series against West Indies which begins on October 2. If Pant cannot regain his fitness, the limited-overs tour of Australia seems like a good option.
After the West Indies Test series ends on October 4 at Pant's homeground, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the ODI series in Australian soil will commence on October 19. The last of the three-ODI series is on October 25. Then, the three-T20I series will be played between October 29 and November 6.
As per a report by Cricbuzz, the 27-year-old was consulting medical experts in Mumbai before heading to Bengaluru for his rehabilitation. The report also mentions that Pant’s right foot is still strapped.
Pant active on social media
Pant, who made a miraculous recovery after a horrible car accident and recovered to international cricket, has been posting updates on social media.
"Just wanna tell you one thing which I understand is it doesn't matter how much pain you endured in the past, if you get hurt again it pains the same for sure, just the threshold goes up and you know the process to keep pushing yourself. So being positive is massive, motivating yourself works a lot. Keep trusting yourself and keep working in the direction you wanna take your life because what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger eventually (sic),” Pant wrote in a post on Instagram.
Realistic return if rehabilitation takes time
If not the West Indies Test series or the Australia limited overs tour, the Indian team management would he hoping that Pant is fit for the crucial two-Test series against South Africa at home which begins on November 14. It will be followed by three-ODI and five-T20I series.
