Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy played a crucial role in India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win. He featured in the three matches of the mega event and picked up nine wickets. Chakravarthy made his Champions Trophy debut against New Zealand in the Group A match played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 2 and picked up a fifer.

He also featured in India's semifinal and final, where he got two scalps in each clash and ended his Champions Trophy campaign as India's second-highest wicket-taker. Chakravarthy, who made his ODI debut during India's last ODI series before the Champions Trophy against England, said that he was not expecting to be a part of the squad and credited Rohit Sharma, support staff, led by Gautam Gambhir, for their decision to select him for the marquee event.
“I didn’t expect to be in the Champions Trophy squad, but thanks to Rohit Bhai and the coaching staff," Chakaravarthy said during the CEAT Cricket Awards in Mumbai.
Notably, Chakaravarthy was a surprise selection in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad. He was picked for the eight-team tournament despite not playing any 50-over match for the Men in Blue at the time of the squad announcement.
