Young spinner Shreyanka Patil was the highest wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 title run but she still did not find any takers for the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024. 22-year-old Shreyanka expressed that she was disappointed when she was not in any of the WBBL squads but took it as a challenge as she aims to become the best all-rounder.
"I am very happy for the six Indians who got selected and wish them good luck. I am a little disappointed, yes, but I know what areas I must work on. I must work on my batting, and I am going to be the best all-rounder," Shreyanka told India Today on the sidelines of a promotional event for QUA.
In WPL, she scored 81 runs from 11 innings. However, her strike rate was an impressive 147.27.
While Shreyanka will have to wait for her WBBL debut, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey, Dayalan Hemalatha, Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues will participate in the Australian T20 league.
Shreyanka was named in India's squad for Women's T20 World Cup 2024. However, her participation was subject to fitness after she picked up a finger injury on her left hand during Asia Cup. She is looking forward to making her World Cup debut.
"I am really looking forward to this World Cup, and it is going to be fun. I do not know about tricks, but hopefully, yes," Shreyanka said.
Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will begin their campaign against New Zealand on October 4.
Shreyanka credits Smriti for backing her
Shreyanka credited Mandhana for her support during WPL, especially after a lacklustre run at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
"Everyone would see that I got the Purple Cap, but for me, it was a roller-coaster of a ride. I could not perform at my best in the first half in Bangalore. I was a little disappointed that I let my Bangalore fans down," Shreyanka said.
"I went back and Malo sir helped me with my bowling. Smriti also backed me. I am grateful to Smriti and the whole management for supporting me at that time. I went back to practice and the second half turned out to be a good one for me," she added.
