A spot has been awarded to fast bowler Ryana MacDonald-Gay in the England squad for the Women's Ashes Test, which will begin on January 30 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The 20-year-old speedster recently took out Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk in the opening innings of the Only Test match against South Africa.
After making her debut during the September tour of Ireland, MacDonald-Gay has since played two ODIs and one T20I. Maia Bouchier, a member of the Test, ODI, and T20I teams during the Ashes also held the record for the fastest hundred for England in women's Test cricket.
After recuperating from a thumb injury she suffered during the South Africa trip, wicketkeeper-batter Bess Heath is back. Despite not playing on any of the three teams, left-arm speedster Mahika Gaur will accompany the team on their trip to continue her recovery.
England head coach on the squads
"We have named balanced squads for this Ashes series, with a good mix of youth and experience. Ashes series are always special. We want to go there, play our way, and are all excited about the challenges ahead," said head coach Jon Lewis.
The ODI series will take place in Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart between January 12 and 17. The pink-ball Test will come after the T20I series, which will be held in Sydney, Canberra, and Adelaide from January 20 to 25.
