James Anderson will be seen playing competitive cricket after nearly a year

Legendary England pacer James Anderson is set to make his comeback for Lancashire in the ongoing season of county cricket. The 42-year-old was last seen featuring in competitive cricket back in June, 2024 when he played his farewell Test against the West Indies. Since then, Anderson has worked as a bowling consultant for the England cricket team.

Anderson likely to play against Derbyshire

Anderson signed a one-year deal with Lancashire earlier this year, but ended up missing the first five matches of the season due to a calf injury. He has been included in Lancashire's squad for their upcoming match against Derbyshire at Old Trafford which is set to commence on Friday.

Lancashire will be counting on Anderson to perform as they have so far had a season to forget. They currently are on the bottom of the table in the second division with no wins in their first five matches. It is safe to say that they are in dire need of a victory.

Anderson is the highest wicket-taking pacer in Test cricket with a total of 704 scalps under his name in 188 matches. He is also the third-highest wicket-taker in international cricket with a total of 991 scalps in 401 matches. His return will surely strengthen Lancashire's bowling unit.

Chahal likely to return to Northamptonshire

Meanwhile, veteran India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is also expected to make a return to county cricket soon. He will likely feature for Northamptonshire, the same team he played for last year.

Chahal will likely be available for Northamptonshire's matches in the County Championship and One-Day Cup, starting from their clash against Middlesex on June 22. In the previous season, Chahal took an impressive five-wicket haul on his debut against Kent in the One-Day Cup. Additionally, the spinner recorded career-best figures of 9/99 against Derbyshire in the County Championship.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season, so I'm very happy to be coming back. There are some great people in that dressing room, and I can't wait to be part of that again. We played some great cricket towards the back end of the season, so hopefully, we're able to replicate that and big up some victories,” Chahal said in a statement.

Chahal impressed during his time with Northamptonshire to say the least, finishing with 19 wickets from just four first-class matches and maintaining an average of 21. He will be looking to rack up many more wickets in his upcoming stint with the club.
