Former Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary who represented India in 12 ODIs and three T20Is hanged his boots with last Ranji Trophy appearance against Bihar at his homeground Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Tiwary in a Facebook live during the match had also said that he would openly talk about issues after taking retirement. He criticised young players for choosing IPL over domestic cricket, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not prioritising Ranji Trophy and then posed a question for former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.
Tiwary had a short ODI career. He made his debut in 2008 and after getting bowled by Brett Lee in Brisbane, he had to wait for three years to make a comeback. After a couple of disappointing scores each against England, he finally broke the shackles and scored an unbeaten 104 against West Indies in Chennai. However, he was dropped later. Nearly 13 years later, he wants to ask Dhoni why he was dropped after scoring a century.
"I would like to ask Dhoni why was I dropped from the playing XI in 2011 after scoring a century? I had the potential to be a hero just like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli but could not be. Today, when I see many people getting more opportunities on TV, I feel sad," Tiwary was quoted as saying by PTI on the sidelines of his felicitation at the Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club.
Tiwary’s ODI career after 2011
Tiwary felt that he should have been backed like other players under the captaincy of Dhoni. After 2011, he made a comeback in 2012. He scored a half-century in one of the two games he played against Sri Lanka and was dropped again. In 2014, he made just one appearance and registered a single-digit score. In 2015, he was picked for Zimbabwe tour where he failed to impress with scores of 2, 22 and 10. He was never picked again in India's ODI side.

Just one innings in T20Is for India
In the T20I format, he made his debut at his homeground. He scored 15 runs from 17 balls and India lost the match by eight wickets. In 2012, he played two more matches but did not get to bat as he was in the lower order.
