England Under-19 are in control of the second Youth Test despite Vihaan Malhotra's century and captain Ayush Mhatre's 80-run knock on Day 3. India Under-19 suffered a batting collapse and were bowled out for 279 in 58.1 overs. After Ralphie Albert's six-wicket haul, the Young Lions were 93 for no loss at the end of day's play. They have a 123-run lead in the bag.
Mhatre, Malhotra dominate first session
Starting at 51/1, Malhotra and Mhatre dealt in boundaries against Alex Green and AM French. Mhatre reached his half-century from 58 balls in the 20th over. He started taking more risks and Malhotra joined him as well. Malhotra reached his fifty from 58 deliveries. After the first session, the visitors were 159/1 from 26 overs.
French gets breakthrough
French got the breakthrough in the 29th over by trapping Mhatre in front of the stumps. He departed for 80 runs from 90 balls. His knock was laced with 14 fours and a six. Albert got into the act and dismissed Abhigyan Kundu caught and bowled for a two-ball duck. In his next over, Albert dismissed Rahul Kumar for a nine-ball duck. Malhotra kept firing from the other end. Harvansh Pangalia took the aerial route as well. In the 40th over, Malhotra reached his century from 101 balls with a four against James Minto.
Malhotra hits ton but Albert rushes through batters
Just when a partnership was brewing, Albert struck again to end Pangalia's stay at the crease. He scored 28 runs from 35 balls. RS Ambrish could not add to the score and departed for a two-ball duck. Then, he got the prized wicket of Malhotra to complete his fifer. The top-order batter hit 19 fours and three sixes in his knock of 120 from 123 deliveries. Henil Patel became Albert's sixth victim of the day. He got out for an eight-ball duck.
Naman Pushpak became the fifth batter to get out for a duck. He lost his wicket to Ben Mayes. Kanishk Chouhan decided to take the aggressive approach, hitting three fours and a six in his 36-ball 23. India Under-19 were bowled out for 279, 30 runs short of Young Lions' first innings score.
Big lead for England
Dismissed for respective ducks in first innings, Ben Dawkins and Adam Thomas shared an unbeaten 93-run partnership. Dawkins scored 42 runs from 81 balls, including three fours and a six before the day's play. Thomas scored 50 runs from 69 balls. He hit seven fours on Day 3. The hosts have a lead of 123 runs ahead of Day 4.
