Irfan Pathan unhappy with selectors for ignoring Umran Malik for South Africa tour, says 'I'm pretty sure the guy who...'

Umran Malik made his appearance in ODIs and T20Is earlier this year. Malik was not picked in India's second-string T20I squad against Australia as well.

Malik was not picked for India A's tour of South Africa.

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has slammed the selectors for not even picking tearaway pacer Umran Malik in the India A squad for the tour of South Africa. After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India and India A squad for the multi-format series on South African soil, Pathan took to social media to express his disappointment.

“I’m pretty sure the guy who was in the Indian team’s playing 11 few months back can surely find a place in India A side,” Pathan wrote in a post on his X account, formerly known as Twitter.

However, the reason behind Malik’s name missing from India A squads can be the left foot injury he picked up in Jammu & Kashmir’s opening encounter of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023. Against Karnataka in Ahmedabad, he conceded 68 runs from eight overs. He could not complete his quota of 10 overs. Later, he did not come out to bat after nine wickets fell in the mammoth run chase as J & K were bowled out for 180 losing the match by 222 runs.

Malik made his limited-overs debut last year. His last ODI appearance was against West Indies in July 2023 where he conceded 27 runs from three overs in a low-scoring affair. In his last T20I appearance, he took a couple of wickets for nine runs from 2.1 overs against New Zealand.
