Former India selector and star wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim has issued a stern warning to Team India after their narrow victory against Bangladesh in the second Test in Mirpur on Sunday (December 25). Karim termed the match a ‘wake-up’ call for the Rahul Dravid's army after the KL Rahul's men managed to pull off three-wicket victory from a precarious position against Bangladesh in the final Test.
India, however, managed to whitewash Bangladesh in the two-match Test outing.
Karim said it is a wake-up call for Team India, who need to address crucial issues after this Test match.
“It’s a wake-up call for Team India. It’s crucial to address the issues in this Test match. We’ll play Test matches against Australia. We are only talking about qualifying for the World Test Championship, but we also need to win the WTC. Don’t repeat the mistakes,” Karim told India News.
The 55-year-old also said that Indian batters need to work on their play against spinners as they were in all sorts of bother while picking their lengths against Bangladesh.
“Team India batters are unable to pick the spinners' length. We are tentative in our defense. The batters need to work on their batting against spinners,” Karim added.
India have a four-match home Test series against Australia which is slated to start from February 9 which will be followed by three ODIs as well. And in the backdrop of World Cup Championships (WTC) final, India will need to keep everything in check if they have to make it to the final. But before that, India will host neighbors Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series and three-game T20I series, before playing New Zealand in a three-match ODI and T20I series at home.
Karim also said there is a room for improvement and Australia will not give India a chance if they are complacent. “There is room for improvement. How you played Mehidy Hasan, losing seven wickets in no time. Australia won’t give you a chance if you are complacent. Leave no stones unturned. We can challenge them and win the crucial series at home,” Karim concluded.
