Jay Shah inducted into 'Hall of fame' for his contribution to the field of sports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah was inducted into the prestigious Hello! Hall of Fame on Monday, April 17, for his contribution to the field of sports.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah was inducted into the prestigious Hello! Hall of Fame on Monday, April 17, for his contribution to the field of sports.

The 34-year-old was made the BCCI secretary in 2019 and during his time, he has helped in the improvement of cricket in the country under his tenure. This includes an improvement in the state of the domestic tournaments as well as guiding the board through a tough period during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Shah was also responsible for the massive windfall that the apex cricket council saw with the introduction of two new teams to the Indian Premier League (IPL), the distribution of the media rights for the IPL, as well as the successful conducting of the Women's Premier League (WPL).

The BCCI's official Twitter handle shared a special message of congratulations to extend their wishes to Shah for the honour, “Heartiest congratulations to our Honorary Secretary, Mr @JayShah, for being awarded Hello! Hall of Fame Award 2023 for his contribution to the field of sports,” the message read.

 

 

More recently, Jay Shah announced a substantial increase in the prize money for the different domestic tournaments in the country. “I’m pleased to announce an increase in prize money for all @BCCI Domestic Tournaments. We will continue our efforts to invest in Domestic Cricket – which is the backbone of Indian Cricket. Ranji winners to get Rs 5 crores (from 2 cr), Sr Women winners Rs 50 lakhs (from 6 lacs),” he wrote in a tweet.

In addition to this, the cash prize for the Irani Cup has also been doubled from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Meanwhile, the Irani Cup's runners-up will get Rs 25 lakh now in a tournament which had no cash prize earlier. The Duleep Trophy winners will receive Rs 1 crore and the runners-up team will get Rs 50 lakh while the Vijay Hazare Trophy champions will now be getting a cheque of Rs 1 crore and the team finishing second best Rs 50 lakh.

Deodhar Trophy winners are set to get richer by Rs 40 lakhs and the losing finalists will get Rs 20 lakh. Similarly, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy champions will be receiving a cheque of Rs 80 lakh and the losing team will get 40 lakhs.

In a big boost to women's cricket in the country, the winners of the Senior Women's One Day trophy will get a cheque of Rs 50 lakh and the runners-up side will receive Rs 25 lakh.

The prize money of the senior women's T20 trophy has also been increased with the winners set to get Rs 40 lakh, eight times more than what they get now. The losing team will get Rs 20 lakh.
