This could be a big blow to Team India.

The Indian cricket team's captain Rohit Sharma may miss one of the first two Tests of the crucial Test series against Australia next month. If this happens it will dealt a serious blow to the Indian cricket squad. With a five-match Test series scheduled to take place in Australia, the two-time World Test Championship (WTC) runners-up will look to capture the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) for the fifth consecutive year.

"There isn't any complete clarity about the situation. It is understood that Rohit has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility that due to a pressing personal matter, he might have to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series," a BCCI source told PTI on the conditions of anonymity

As per the report from PTI, the Indian skipper might miss the first or second Test match against Australia. The 37-year-old is thought to have already notified the BCCI of his probable absence.

Rohit Sharma's potential replacement

According to the report, Abhimanyu Easwaran might be called up to the team to cover for Rohit. Even so, Team India has opened the innings before with both Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. India failed to select a vice-captain for the Bangladesh series, hence it is unclear who would skipper the team going forward.

Five Test matches between Australia and India is scheduled to begin in Perth on November 22. The sides will later take a plane to Adelaide for a pink-ball match that will serve as the second Test starting on December 6. One of these two Test matches is anticipated to be missed by Rohit. The final three games will be played in Sydney (Jan 3-7), Melbourne (Dec 26-30), and Brisbane (Dec 14–18).
