Australian cricket star Matt Short and Olympic swimmer Madi Wilson have officially become husband and wife, marking a joyful new chapter in their whirlwind love story.

The celebrated sporting duo, who announced their engagement 18 months ago, exchanged vows over the weekend in a picturesque setting. Wilson shared a heartfelt video on social media, capturing the couple embracing on a serene beach, simply captioned: “Married..”

Their wedding comes less than a year after welcoming their first child, a baby boy named Austin, in August 2024.

“Our little Aussie is here and we couldn't be happier,” the couple shared at the time.

Madi Wilson's Emotional Farewell to Swimming

Wilson, a four-time Olympic medalist, made the difficult decision to retire from professional swimming earlier this year. In a candid Instagram post, she reflected on her 17-year career representing Australia.

“Seventeen years ago I made my first junior Australian Swim Team, so it's hard to put into words how I feel about announcing my official retirement today.”

“Swimming has been the biggest part of my life and my identity for the better part of nearly two decades.”

“I'm sad but ready to close this part of my life and move on to what life has next. From being a shy young country girl, to leading the Australia Swim Team, I couldn't have dreamed of anything more.”

Wilson’s career highlights include gold medals in the 400m freestyle relay at both the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, as well as multiple podium finishes at World Championships. She also excelled in backstroke, notably claiming silver in the 100m backstroke at the 2015 World Championships.

Health Scare and Road to Recovery

Wilson revealed to her followers in 2023 regarding a health scare, declaring that some tumors had been found in her breast. Although the tumors turned out to be benign, she described it as "one of the most scary things I've experienced in my life."

Her honesty regarding this health scare was met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow athletes alike.

A Sporting Power Couple

This relationship was revealed to the public when they appeared together at the 2023 Australian Cricket Awards. The romance quickly won the hearts of fans all over the country. Kyle Chalmers, an Olympic swimmer, was Wilson's previous romance.

Short is a 29-year-old Australian cricket powerhouse. He debuted for the national team in 2023 and has since captained the Big Bash League's Adelaide Strikers and now plays for San Francisco Unicorns in the United States' Major League Cricket.

A New Chapter Begins

In a series of new posts on Instagram, the newlyweds shared further details of their big day, featuring clips from a garden ceremony and tender moments shared with their son Austin on the beach. Full of love, laughter, and good vibes, the gathering was a celebration of new beginnings for the couple.

Skipping the Paris Olympics on account of her pregnancy was a big personal decision for Wilson, who is now sharing the joys of family life with Short while continuing to be inspirational in every aspect of sports.
