Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan compares himself with former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction 2025. BCCI have already announced the retention policy for IPL 2025 auction. The apex cricket board of India made a few changes to the policies and has increased the retentions from four to six players.

On a television show with Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan said that legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Chhetri and Roger Federer know when you retire. After his remark, Karan Johar asked SRK about his retirement plans where he compared himself with MS Dhoni.

“The biggest thing about legends… unki khasiyat ye hoti hai ki legends ko maalum hota hai, when to stop, when to retire. Like the great Sachin Tendulkar, like Sunil Chhetri—the footballer, like Roger Federer—the great tennis star. They all know when to retire, and I think it’s time you did too. So please go back. Thank you very much,” Shah Rukh said to Johar.

“By that standard, aur us hisab se aap kyon retire nahi hote,” Johar replied, to which Shah Rukh added, “Actually main doosre kisam ka legendary hoon. Main aur Dhoni ek kisam ke legends hai. Na na kar ke bhi 10 baar IPL khel jaate hai,” he added.

MS Dhoni has played all 17 editions of IPL where he is arguably one of the best captains in the history of cash-rich league under his guidance, CSK lifted the title five times which is joint most in the history of the tournament.

MS Dhoni's IPL future

Indian Premier League has announced that If a capped Indian player has not played in the starting XI in international cricket (Test matches, ODIs, T20 Internationals) in the last five calendar years preceding the organization of the respective season or does not have a central contract with the BCCI, he will become uncapped and this rule will apply on Indian cricketers. This change means former CSK skipper Dhoni will now be seen as an uncapped player for IPL 2025. However, Dhoni has yet to take a call on his IPL future.
