India A are set to play against Australia A in two unofficial Tests and three ODIs. There has recently been a lot of chatter around the series after it was recently reported that there are chances that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be featuring against Australia A in the one-day assignment. All the three matches of the series will be played at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur and will commence from September 30.
With both Rohit and Virat expected to make their return to international cricket in October with the Australia tour, it was expected that the India A series would be a good way for them to practice for the important assignment ahead. However, according to a report by The Times of India, the duo are unlikely to feature for India A in their upcoming ODI series against Australia A. The report also stated that both of them are 'fit and available' for the Australai ODI series in October.
"See it's highly unlikely that they will play the three India A games. No call has been taken on that and it will not be forced upon them too. Only if they need some game time, you could see them play one, or even two, games before the Australia ODIs. But nothing has been finalised yet. They are very much fit and available for the Australia ODIs," a senior BCCI official told The Times of India.
"Before the selectors decide the India A squad and then the India squads for the Australia tour, the Irani Cup squad will be announced and some selectors are set to watch the Duleep Trophy final in Bengaluru, while Ajit Agarkar is with the team in Dubai," the official added.
Rohit and Virat recently underwent fitness tests
On the other hand, both Rohit and Virat recently had their pre-season mandatory fitness tests. While the former gave his test at BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, Kohli reportedly had his test done in London. The BCCI official also shared his opinion on these tests and stated that it is compulsary for all the players to give it and it doesn't guarantee a selection in the squad.
"Those were the routine fitness tests. All the contracted players go through the fitness test twice a year. Nothing unusual there or something which affects or will have a say in selection," the official stated.
Meanwhile, India will be touring Australia for a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series in October. The one-day assignment will begin from October 19 with the first match set to take place in Perth and the second match to be held in Adelaide. The series finale will be playef at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25.
