IPL Governing Council reinstated the uncapped player rule.

The rule will allow CSK to retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) will keep altering its regulations as long as MS Dhoni wishes to participate in the competition, said the former Indian cricket player Mohammad Kaif. Notably, the player regulations for the upcoming auction for the 2025 season of the event were recently revealed by the IPL Governing Council.

The governing council has reinstated the uncapped players rule, which declares an Indian player uncapped if he has not played international cricket in the five years before to the start of the next season, as one of the many regulations created for the upcoming campaign. The regulation will enable CSK to keep MS Dhoni, their former captain, without having to shell out a significant sum of money.

Kaif on Dhoni

In response to the news, Kaif said that he was thrilled to watch MS Dhoni play again and that the competition will keep bending its rules to let him play for as long as he wants.

"You will get the chance to see MS Dhoni again. He is fit, batting at a strike rate of 200, keeping well, and that is why I believe the rules will keep changing till he wants to play. If he wants to play in the IPL, he will play. He is such a big player, such a big match-winner, and has been a leader for CSK," said Kaif on Star Sports.

Kaif then went on to praise the ruling council and asserted that anyone will be forced to adjust their regulations due to Dhoni's aura.

"I believe the rule has been changed rightly. I believe if he is fit and playing well, why not, change the rule and let him play. Everyone knows the rule has been changed for Dhoni sahab, and why not, you will want to change the rule for a player like Dhoni," the former India batter added.

After Dhoni getting qualified as the uncapped player, CSK would be allowed to keep him for INR 4 crore taking away a tremendous weight away from their pocket. During the previous season, the wicketkeeper-batsman was once again appearing at the peak of his career, amassing 161 runs from 11 innings at a scorching strike rate of 220.54, smashing 14 fours and 13 sixes. As he gets ready for what may be his final innings, Dhoni will be keen to carry up his excellent form in the upcoming edition as well.
