'Slapgate' is one of the most controversial incidents in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. In the inaugural season, Harbhajan Singh slapping S Sreesanth made headlines during the inaugural season of the cash-rich league. At that time Sreesanth used to represent Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) who beat Mumbai Indians (MI). Sreesanth was later seen crying on the field.
Years have passed and the two players have buried the hatchet to an extent they say good things about each other and can share the screen space. In a special episode by Star Sports which celebrated 12th anniversary of India's iconic ODI World Cup win at Wankhede Stadium, Sreesanth talked about his friendship with the Turbanator. Also, he revealed that his performances used to be better after hugging Harbhajan.
“I want to share that before playing a Test or any other match, I always hugged Bhajji pa (Harbhajan Singh). My performace always used to be better,” Sreesanth said.
Former Indian opener who also represented the Punjab-based franchise interjected and said "When did this hug trend start! Probably after the incident in Mohali."
Harbhajan tried to keep the conversation for taking a different route by saying "Bhul jao yaar (Forget it man)".
Sreesanth then clarified that the trend started in 2006, two years prior to the controversial incident. He also had a handshake with his former teammate Harbhajan. The off-spinner then said, “Kuch toh log kahenge” (People always say something).
Recently, both Sreesanth and Harbhajan shared the dressing room in Legends League Cricket (LLC) for India Maharajas. However, the Gautam Gambhir-led side could not make it into the final after getting knocked out by World Giants. The tournament was won by Shahid Afridi-led Asia Lions.
