Currently, the ICC has suspended the SLC after the sports minister intervened in team selection issues due to the national team's poor performance in the ICC event in India.

Former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe had dismissed the entire board and installed an ad-hoc committee under Arjuna Ranatunga. However, the ruling was overturned in court on an appeal by Mohan de Silva, who was then the head of the committee.

Another controversy occurred when the president of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe fired Ranasinghe from his post on November 27. The sports minister had also refused to withdraw the board’s dismissal.

“The decision to file this complaint stems from the concern that Roshan Ranasinghe MP has not appropriately disclosed the utilisation of funds allocated by SLC for the intended purposes”, quoted the press release by SLC.

The SLC officially complained to the commission to investigate allegations of bribery or corruption against Ranasinghe on December 4.

The complaint revolves around the alleged misappropriation of funds released by SLC intended for the development of various sports disciplines.

Recently, the new sports minister of Sri Lanka Harin Fernando reversed the firing of the country’s cricket body due to corruption charges. This move was made in the expectation that the ICC would lift the suspension of the board.
