Smriti Mandhana says she is ready to lead India
Speaking in an interview with The Times of India, Mandhana was asked whether she would be willing to take over the India captaincy if the opportunity presented itself.
"Yes, of course. I am ready," Mandhana said when quizzed about the possibility of leading the national side.
The 29-year-old also reflected on the leadership approach that has brought success during her stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Women's Premier League. Smriti Mandhana explained that building a positive dressing-room environment remains the cornerstone of her captaincy philosophy, believing players perform at their best when they feel trusted and valued within the team setup.
Mandhana already boasts an impressive leadership record
While Mandhana is yet to become India's full-time captain, she already possesses considerable leadership experience at the international level. The left-handed opener has captained India in 22 international matches across formats, including 18 T20Is and four One-Day Internationals, while maintaining a perfect 100% win record in ODIs.
Her credentials have been further strengthened by her success with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), whom she has captained since the inaugural Women's Premier League season in 2023. Under her leadership, RCB ended their long wait for silverware by winning two WPL titles, making Smriti Mandhana the first captain in RCB's history, across both the IPL and WPL, to lift a trophy for the franchise.
With proven leadership experience, consistent performances with the bat and a growing list of achievements as captain, Mandhana has now publicly confirmed that she is ready whenever India decides to hand her the reins.
